Off-the-Wall Artistic Surface Scratching
The Museum of Street Art in Zagreb “opened” its Wall on May 15th with a series of creative wall-works painting and shaping of the long wall on Branimir’s Street in Zagreb. In view of this creative occasion, we present you the Portuguese street artist Alexander Farto aka Vhils. The twenty-three-year-old Portuguese hiding behind the artistic name Vhils drew attention to himself during London’s 2008 Art Cans Festival, where he was one of 39 international artists specially invited to the event by Banksy himself, by far the most famous mover and shaker of the street-art scene. “Walls – Scratching the Surface“ is a series of works in which Vhils literally “scratches the wall surface“, namely, his works were created by scraping, hammering, carving or digging various facades and old walls, thus unfolding new layers and structures of the production elements, whose various colours and shapes ultimately create phenomenal displays.
To catch a glimpse of Croatian wall-scratching art, namely, to view how 64 chosen Croatian artists interpreted their ideas and concepts of wall-forming, check out Branimir’s Street, as its southern part, from Petrinjska to Strojarska Street, is abound with works of some future Croatian Banksies or Vhilses, and whose ideas and projects are, we dare say, just as good as those of the talented Portuguese artist.
