“Our Beautiful” (Croatia’s pet name for the country, based on its national anthem “Our Beautiful Homeland”) is in high preparation-mode for the arrival of the Pope, who is set to visit Croatia this year. Thus the cult Rijeka rock band Let 3 released a single and video for their song “Thank You Christ”, both a sign of gratitude towards Jesus Christ and a request for the Church to put a stop to its thievery.
“This is a song of love, benevolence, cleansing and catharsis. Man has hit rock bottom, is called upon by Jesus, goes to the house, where he finds the Church, priests stealing the people’s land. This is a thanks to Jesus, but also a request for the Church to stop robbing us blind, as they’re the wealthiest company in this Country”– Let 3’s front man Mrle comments.

However, it’s indicative that despite winning the aforementioned award, this provocative satire criticizing Croatian reality got the lowest ratings as per the festival’s audience, confirming the fact that we’re collectively unable to rise to the occasion and face the dark forces influencing our society.
Jesus liked singing and sent out messages of peace. In that very same spirit, Let 3 thank Christ and address the Church.
