The candy-designing creative personalities, most probably owners of the “sweetest” job in the world, entwine fairy tales, irony and sugar, thus finding new ways of enjoying candy. Tommy Tang and Christopher King, friends who after moving from Australia, decided on Barcelona as their creative and business center, view sugar not only as a mere food item but an ingredient for designing sweets sculptures in various shapes and forms.
“Everything started off as a joke, but our clients insisted we continue, so we started creating a whole chain of stores entitled Papabubble“. The first store was opened in 2004 in Barcelona, and the creative energy gradually spread to stores in Amsterdam, Tokyo, New York, Lisabon, Seoul and Taipei.

Clients can see Papabubble employees carrying out a vat of molten sugar and watch the entire candy-making process unfold before their eyes. They use up almost a thousand kilos of sugar every month, which turns into a long sticky mix ready for molding and multi-flavored coloring. In their stores’ window you’ll find golf courses with clubs, balls and trees, a parked white Buick, a plaid picnic blanket, vases with sweet flowers, bouquets, tennis rackets… Every part of their unusual composition is made out of smooth and shiny candy, and each and every one of their works is a bona fide original.
They like to say for themselves that they made thousands of their buyers’ dreams come true, both small and individual orders and the big-brand ones. Sony, Seat, Loewe, KLM, Deutsche Bank, Gucci… are but a few big names for which they designed sweet sculptures and logos within the candy. One musician even requested they design a candy cover of his new album. “Why shouldn’t creative personalities express themselves through candy?! As opposed to other ingredients, our end result is always sweeter”, state Tommy and Christopher.
Whatever idea customers come up with, the “sweet” creatives are sure to carry out any and all personalized orders. You can taste their candy in 30 different flavors, and only the finest ingredients are used in the process of designing. A creative team endeavors to offer their clients something new every day, waking up their senses and imagination with “plain” old sugar.
