Lipstick Enigma is an innovative “eloquent“ installation, a computer-driven generator of letters i.e. words. The author is New York artist Janet Zweig. Her unusual sculpture is made of 1200 resin lipsticks, its software writing new lines of text, using patterns and templates written by the artist, and displaying it on the sign when activated by a motion detector.
The glitzy installation may at first glance seem like a standard monitor with light-emitting diodes, however, if you look more closely you’ll see that the pixels making out the letters are actually pink lipsticks. With the help of several associates, Zweig created the installation for the Harris Corporation Engineering Center at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
