Two young artists, Laura Junger i Xavier Xylophon are the authors of a short movie called “Joy of Destruction”. Through this short movie Junger and Xylophon wonder why people have an inexplicable desire for destruction and at what point does it become a delightful obsession. They point out how taking pleasure in destruction occurs regularly from infancy onwards, through seemingly benign situations, and continues throughout life, right up to old age. Using paper collage and stop motion animation the authors illustrate the destructive character of our age, from breaking toys, popping plastic bubble-wrap or knocking down bowling pins while bowling, through car-bumping in the amusement park and video game combat all the way to killing animals, electric chair executions and devastating wars. We’re sure you’ll find one of your own hidden destructive obsessions in the video, hopefully a harmless and endearing obsession at that.

More details on the young artists and their works are available on their respective websites xaverxylophon.de and loragearrive.free.fr, we’ll just note that Laura claims she has vampire blood running through her veins and is sorry she didn’t become a detective, while Xavier likes the smell of new tennis balls and hates all dolphins save Flipper.
