The eternally different John Galliano, one of the most famous British as well as world-renowned fashion designers, was recently entrusted with designing something other than high-end fashion garments, thus briefly being lured away from his usual high-fashion “territory”. Namely, Dior’s creative director, originally from Gibraltar, is this year’s celebrity creator of a limited-edition line of macaroons for the prestigious Paris patisserie Ladurée. The Paris-based luxury cakes and pastries manufacturer is world-renowned because of its (allegedly) fantastic pastries and is credited with the invention of the “double-decker macaroon” meringue sandwich, the patisserie’s pride and joy, of which it sells over 15.000 per day.

The legendary Ladurée patisserie has been the famous designer’s favorite Paris haunt since he’s been living in the French capital, so it was only a matter of time before they embarked on collaboration. Ladurée and Galliano worked together for their new line of popular macaroons based on rose and ginger flavors, while the idea that precisely those ingredients be the basis for the haute-couture macaroons by Galliano was inspired by the notes of his latest perfume, “Parlez moi d’amour”. The elegantly packaged macaroons – which come in boxes of 6, 12, or 18 – are now in a box that appears to be covered in stationary, on which a love letter has been written, signed by none other than “John Galliano” and featuring a chic stamp.
This isn’t Ladurées’ first collaboration with high-end fashion designers. One of last year’s limited-edition macaroons were created by the omnipresent shoe designer Christian Louboutin, while Christian Lacroix, Sonia Rykiel and Swarovski have had the privilege of designing and “packaging“ these famous Paris meringue sandwich cookies in past years.
