Around two months ago, organized by the Croatian Designers Society and Croatian Chamber of Architects, a competition was released for the CCA’s new visual identity.
The competition was an invitation-based event and it included the participation of the following teams: Zoran Đukić and Jan Pavlović, Šesnić & Turković, Studio Dogan, Jelenko Hercog, Dario Dević and Hrvoje Živčić, Lana Cavar and Narcisa Vukojević.
Eight projects took part in the competition, and on the 7th of June 2011, the panel comprised of five judges: Damir Bralić, Tomislav Ćurković, Boris Fiolić, Orsat Franković (chairman) and Damir Gamulin; chose the winner. It was the entry submitted by Zoran Đukić and Jan Pavlović.

* Awarded work 2d/3dc
In continuation of this text you can find the Panel’s elaboration concerning the winning entry:
„Of all the entries that exploit the motif of the cube, which was clearly a big ‘hit’ among the contestants – both because of its connotation of the orthogonal space and because there is a link between the cube and the Croatian national identity – this particular entry is the most successful one in terms of its visual articulation and further development; as it also ‘detaches’ the cube from stereotypes. Here, the motif of the cube in isometric axonometry balances between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. Balancing between sign and logo, by using equally thick line, is in accordance with the architectural design consistency and also it is respectful of the historical architectural drawings’ principle –from stereotypes to CAD programs. The right choice of style gives this solution; i.e. entry; the seriousness and the simplicity it needs while also giving it a humanistic charm in that it deals with details of this modern interpretation of the grotesque in a subtle way. The same reductionist principle continues consistently by using only one corporative color.

Although the idea is that of moderate and unobtrusive artistic stylization, it still leaves enough room for diversity and endurance over time which has been successfully proven in the design of the poster which the judges highlight as crucial for further development of the visual identity. The judges also suggest minimal changes when it comes to the sign; in order to lessen the level of association, seeing as its current form is too suggestive. It is recommended to continue the development of the visual identity in cooperation with the Panel.”
The competition was hosted by Mirna Reinprecht.
