A House for Lady GaGa
One of the biggest phenomena on the world music scene is undoubtedly the 24-year-old American singer otherwise known as Lady GaGa. The girl who literally burst onto the music scene, and whose “performance” people in Croatia will have a chance to see in November, didn’t build her sensational world career on catchy pop songs of questionable quality, but rather by wearing creative and unbelievable costumes, having an interesting look, issuing controversial statements, doing promiscuous music videos, and being all-around absolutely original.
While some think of her as a fabulous artist, and some call her the 21st century Madonna, others are appalled by her appearance and work, crowning her the Queen of Trash. However, one internet portal about architecture put a different spin on the mass hysteria surrounding Lady GaGa. Icarch, an independent and non-profit site which sees itself as a storage for ideas and creative output, has been inviting interesting tenders for some time now, often asking people to design a house for some of the world icons, talented artists and idols of the past, but also for living persons in show business. Their archives for the already carried out tenders hold designs of imaginary houses for Walter Benjamin and Nietzsche, for homes of great directors such as Felllini, Kurosawa, and Bergman, or for acclaimed artists such as Botticelli, Camus, or J. S. Bach. In the group of great artists from the movies, politics, and philosophy, whose houses have been designed by portal users, the controversial Lady GaGa has also found her place. Putting the artist on the list illustrates the force of the effect that the American girl produced by bursting onto the scene. However, we are pretty sure that that the hidden agenda behind the portal’s tender is great PR for the site, since the artist’s stage name is one of the most googled words.
Paying homage to the artist’s uniqueness and the ability to provoke people, the organizers are inviting users and future designers to get inspired by the whole idea of the lucid singer and the concept of her approach to modern pop music which is, although often perceived and defined as extravagant, actually layered, bold, and always different. Recently, American architect Frank Gehry, probably taken by the GaGa phenomenon, created a hat for her, which is the young singer’s must-have accessory. World designers are practically competing do dress the young star, which is why Lady GaGa has been dressed by a number of well-known artists and designers, including the tragically deceased Alexander McQueen.

Designs of the house for the current best-selling pop icon of the world will become known after June 1, when the tender closes. The organizers point out they have invited Lady GaGa to be part of the committee.
